The Sensex opened 43 points lower at 14,681. The index is now down 66 points at 14,659.
The NSE Nifty is down 27 points at 4,404.
Technology stocks have bucked the trend in early trades. Infosys has surged 2.5% to Rs 1,731. TCS and Wipro have gained 1.5% each at Rs 843 and Rs 435, respectivel. Satyam has advanced over 1% to Rs 417.
Hindalco has plunged nearly 5% to Rs 129. Sterlite has shed 2.6% at Rs 604.
NTPC, ACC and SBI have dropped 1.7% each to Rs 178, Rs 599 and Rs 1,434, respectively.
ICICI Bank, Reliance Communications and Reliance are down around 1.5% each at Rs 663, Rs 418 and Rs 2,243, respectively.
