Sensex erases early gains; HDFC drops 3%

The Sensex opened 37 points higher at 8,793, and touched a high of 8,828 in opening trades. The index, thereafter, pared gains and slipped into red. The Sensex is now almost flat at 8,760 - up three points.

Jaiprakash Associates has soared nearly 4% to Rs 74. Mahindra & Mahindra has rallied over 3% to Rs 356.

Bhati Airtel has gained 2.5% at Rs 572. DLF, Tata Motors and Ranbaxy have moved up around 1.5% each to Rs 155, Rs 164 and Rs 141, respectively.

SBI and Larsen & Toubro are up over 1% each at Rs 965 and Rs 622, respectively.

HDFC has slumped 3% to Rs 1,339. Sterlite has plunged 2.5% to Rs 276.

Grasim and Maruti have slipped over 2% each to Rs 1,461 and Rs 697, respectively.

Tata Power and Infosys have dropped 1.7% each to Rs 652 and Rs 1,274, respectively.

NTPC, Hindalco and Sun Pharma are down over 1% each at Rs 168, Rs 42 and Rs 1,010, respectively.
