The Sensex after opening at 16,829 have surged further to a high of 16,908. The index is now up 203 points at 16,896.
The Nifty is up 57 points at 5,016.
Sun Pharma has soared over 6% to Rs 1,392. TCS has rallied 3.5% to Rs 608. Wipro has gained 3% at Rs 584.
ICICI Bank has moved up 2.5% to Rs 859. Infosys, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, HDFC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance, DLF and Larsen & Toubro have added 1-2% each.
Among the Nifty stocks, Cipla and HCL Tech have advanced 2% each. Cairn India and SAIL are also up marginally.
However, BPCL has slipped 1.5% to Rs 571.
The market breadth is positive. Out of 2,292 shares traded 1,734 have advanced while 504 have declined.
