Mirroring positive global cues, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 73 points at 9,040. The index has extended gains and is now up 205 points at 9,172.
The BSE Metal index has surged nearly 3% to 5,411, and the Oil & Gas index has gained 2.3% at 6,512.
Tata Motors has rallied nearly 5% to Rs 169. Sterlite has soared 4% to Rs 328.
Reliance Infrastrucutre and Tata Steel have surged 3.7% each to Rs 501 and Rs 183, respectively.
HDFC has gained 3% at Rs 1,452. Tata Power and Mahindra & Mahindra have moved up nearly 3% each to Rs 685 and Rs 365, respectively.
ONGC, Reliance, Reliance Communications, TCS, Jaiprakash Associates, ITC and Bharti Airtel have advanced around 2.5% each.
NTPC, Wipro and BHEL are up around 2% each.
DLF, however, has shed nearly 2% at Rs 168.
