Sensex nears 11K, cracks 676pts in early trades

The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 379 points at 11,316 on the back of global meltdown. The index has slipped deeper into red close to the 11,000-mark, and is now down 676 points at 11,019.

Sterlite slumped over 10% to Rs 282. Tata Power plunged 2.8% to Rs 708.

Satyam crashed 7% at Rs 260. Jaiprakash Associates, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel and Wipro have tumbled around 6.5% each to Rs 94, Rs 942, Rs 334 and Rs 287, respectively.

Infosys and Reliance Infrastructure have shed 6% each at Rs 1,225 and Rs 611, respectively. TCS has dropped 5.7% to Rs 543.

HDFC Bank, DLF, Reliance Communications and Reliance have slipped 5% each to Rs 1,071, Rs 288, Rs 285 and Rs 1,593, respectively.

HDFC has declined 4.7% to Rs 1,862. ICICI Bank and BHEL are down 4.3% each at Rs 464 and Rs 1,432, respectively.

ITC and SBI have shed 4% each at Rs 168 and Rs 1,352, respectively.

All index stocks are in negative zone with a minimum loss of 2% each.
