The Sensex opened 77 points higher at 9,334, and touched a high of 9,380 in early trades. The index, thereafter, has pared gains and is now up 44 points at 9,302.
Maruti, HDFC, Hindalco and Mahindra & Mahindra have rallied over 3% each to Rs 538, Rs 1,552, Rs 46 and Rs 293, respectively.
SBI, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank have moved up over 2.5% each to Rs 1,140, Rs 151 and Rs 419, respectively.
Larsen & Toubro, Tata Steel and DLF have gained around 2% each at Rs 685, Rs 180 and Rs 181, respectively.
Ranbaxy has plunged nearly 3% to Rs 207.
BHEL and NTPC have shed around 2.5% each to Rs 1,360 and Rs 187, respectively.
