The Sensex opened 20 points higher at 9,035, and soon touched a high of 9,112. The index has since pared gains and is now up 32 points at 9,047.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has surged nearly 4% to Rs 295, and Wipro has rallied nearly 3% to Rs 215.
Grasim has gained 2.5% at Rs 1,376. Maruti and HDFC have moved up nearly 2% each to Rs 629 and Rs 1,390, respectively.
Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Steel, DLF and Sterlite have advanced around 1.5% each to Rs 510, Rs 174, Rs 161 and Rs 258, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates and Ranbaxy are up 1.3% each at Rs 70 and Rs 207, respectively.
