Sensex pares morning gain, Wipro slides 2%

The markets after a positive opening have erased some of its early gains to touch a low of 18,682 in the morning trades. The Nifty is up 13 points at 5,626 while the Sensex gained 54 points at 18,708.

In the broader markets, the smallcap index shot up 0.7% as compared to the midcap index and Sensex which is up 0.3% each. This is the second consecutive day where the smallcap index is outperforming the Sensex.

Among the sectoral indices, Realty index is leading the gains, up 1% closely followed by FMCG index gaining 0.9%. On the other hand, health Care, Power and IT indices are in the negative, losing between 0.2-0.5%

The top gainers among the Sensex stocks are Reliance Communications, DLF, Reliance Infrastructure, ITC and Maruti Suzuki up 1% each.

Wipro down 2% continues to be the top loser followed by Hindalco, TCS, Cipla and Mahindra & Mahindra losing 0.3-1%.

The market breadth continues to be positive. Of the total 2390 stocks traded on the BSE, 1509 stocks have advanced while 783 declined.
