The Sensex opened 91 points lower at 14,153, and soon touched a low of 14,137. The index has recovered partially and is now down six points at 14,237.
Hindalco has surged 3.5% to Rs 133.
Sterlite has gained 2.3% at Rs 615. Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Steel are up 1% each at Rs 545 and Rs 595, respectively.
NTPC, Grasim and BHEL have shed 1.8% each at Rs 170, Rs 1,930 and Rs 1,640, respectively.
ONGC, Reliance Infrastructure and HDFC are down around 1.5% each at Rs 994, Rs 942 and Rs 2,180, respectively.
