Sensex strong in early trades

The Sensex has today opened 89 points higher at 17,415 owing to positive cues from the global markets. The index soared to a high of 17,429 and is now at 17,425, up 100 points.

The NSE Nifty is at 5,175, up 33 points.

NTPC added 2% to Rs 219. Jaiprakash Associates and Wipro advanced over 1.5% each to Rs 265 and Rs 583, respectively.

The other marginal gainers were TCS, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel, up 1% each.

Mahindra & Mahindra on the other hand slipped 2% to Rs 917.

Tata Motors, ITC and Larsen & Toubro are down over 0.5% each.

The BSE IT and realty indices have advanced around 1% each.
