The Sensex after a flat start at 14,902, soon crossed the 15,000 mark after a gap of nine months. The Sensex touched a high of 15,043,up 168 points from the previous close. The index however has started slipping and is now at 14,987, up 112 points.
Tata Motors has zoomed 5% to Rs 366. Tata Steel has soared 3.5% to Rs 491. Hindalco has gained 2.5% to Rs 90.
Jaiprakash Associates and ACC have added over 2% each at Rs 221 and Rs 803, respectively.
HDFC Bank has advanced 1.7% at Rs 1,423.
ITC, Tata Power, Wipro, BHEL and Ranbaxy are up 1% each.
Maruti is the lone loser so far at Rs 1,026.
The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 1,625 shares traded so far on the BSE, 1,297 have advanced and only 229 have declined.
