Sensex up 160pts; Sterlite, Hindalco lead

The Sensex is now up 160 points at 14,404.

Sterlite has soared nearly 5% to Rs 630, and Hindalco has surged 4.5% to Rs 135.

Hindustan Unilever has rallied 3.8% to Rs 245. Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Power have moved up over 2.5% each to Rs 554, Rs 980 and Rs 1,049, respectively.

HDFC Bank, HDFC and Reliance Communications have advanced over 2% each to Rs 1,192, Rs 2,258 and Rs 407, respectively.

Maruti, BHEL and Infosys are up 2% each at Rs 631, Rs 1,704 and Rs 1,697, respectively.

Satyam has plunged 3% to Rs 387. NTPC and Grasim are down 1.3% each at Rs 171 and Rs 1,938, respectively.

The market breadth is negative - out of 2,680 stocks traded so far, 1,402 have declined, 1,172 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
