With a rise of 3.59 per cent during the week ended Friday, the Skindia GDR Index (SGI) has outperformed the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex. The SGI has now moved up 16.35 per cent from the year's low of 392.31 reached on September 25, 2001 after the US terrorist attack.
Among the 23 index stocks, there were 17 gainers and 4 losers, while Gujarat Ambuja and IPCL remaining unchanged.
During the week, there were 4 gainers and 6 losers among 11 ADRs with Silverline Technologies (up 34.31 per cent to $1.37) as the biggest gainer, VSNL (down 8.33 per cent to $8.80) as the biggest loser. Rediff remained unchanged at $0.75.
As per a study conducted by us, between September 10 and October 18, 2001, the Skindia GDR Index (SGI) (down The Skindia GDR Index has been steadily increasing for the seventh consecutive week. It rose 3.32 per cent in the last week and 11.81 per cent in the last 30 days with 32 of 73 DRs (44.44 per cent) quoting at a premium to their underlying shares on December 06. Heavy-weights Reliance (weight:17.79 per cent; up 7.30 per cent to $13.68), Infosys (weight : 9.17 per cent; up 10.77 per cent to $67.90), VSNL (weight : 7.81 per cent; up 1.06 per cent to $9.50) and Hindalco (weight : 7.45 per cent; up 5.21 per cent to $15.15) led the upswing among the index stocks this week.
During the week, there were 9 gainers and 3 losers among the 11 ADRs with Satyam Computers (up 30.10 per cent to $12.75), Satyam Infoway (up 16.75 per cent to $2.37) and Wipro (up 16.53 per cent to $41.25) as the biggest gainers and ICICI (down 14.31 per cent to $5.57), ICICI Bank (down 13.90 per cent to $4.15) and Rediff (down 9.64 per cent to $0.75) as the only losers.
