In view of the current financial meltdown, steel companies facing problems in West Bengal could be provided with due assistance, claimed Sabyasachi Sen, principal secretary of department of commerce and industry, government of West Bengal.

On the sidelines of an interactive session, Sen said, "I am aware of the crisis that the steel sector is facing and the industry is hit. I have proposed to meet the sector collectively instead of meeting the units individually to get a proper understanding of the situation. The government will help within its ability."

Biswadip Gupta, joint managing director and chief executive officer(CEO) of JSW Steel, emphasised that the present crisis was not hampering the company's proposed investment in Salboni. He predicted that the financial crisis could end soon.

Sandipan Chokroborty, chairman of CII eastern region, said, "if companies have money to invest they can do so."

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be holding a business to business(B2B) exhibition titled Biz Bridge-Resurgent East from November 19, highlighting key sectors ranging from steel, power, chemicals, petrohemicals, automobiles and wagons manufacturing to facilitate better linkage between their requirements and delivery mechanism.
