The retail-investor-focused equity segment's AUM has nearly doubled in two years to Rs 4.5 lakh crore at the end of July. The sector has added 310,000 investor accounts in the equity segment in two years.
Domestic markets have been through turbulent times during the past two years, but retail (small) investors have continued their investments. Last financial year, the sector added 4.3 million equity accounts. This financial year so far, the sector has added 660,000 accounts. But the sector has a long way to go before it regains its peak investor base of 40.1 million seen in 2010-11.
