According to media reports, the Telecom Commission, the highest decision-making body in the telecom department, has accepted telecom regulator’s proposal to permit spectrum trading and sharing. The Commission has, however, asked TRAI to work out the modalities before implementing it.
Meanwhile, the government is likely to issue detailed guidelines for sharing spectrum and announce "in principle" approval for trading in airwaves before it holds the next round of bandwidth auctions, moves that will bring relief to the debt-laden telecom sector, the Economic Times report suggests.
Among the individual stocks, Idea Cellular was the largest gainer, rallied over 5% at Rs 183, also its record high on the BSE. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications are up 3% each at Rs 333 and Rs 151 respectively.
