The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 275 points at 9,371, and soon slipped to a low of 9,282. The index, thereafter, recovered partially and touched a high of 9,396. The Sensex is now down 278 points at 9,367.
Wipro has slumped 6% to Rs 235. Sterlite and TCS have tumbled over 5% each to Rs 280 and Rs 482, respectively.
ICICI Bank and Tata Motors have plunged nearly 5% each to Rs 387 and Rs 153, respectively.
Reliance Communications and Infosys have slipped over 4% each to Rs 229 and Rs 1,089, respectively.
Jaiprakash Associates and Tata Steel have dropped nearly 4% each to Rs 80 and Rs 209, respectively.
Satyam and Reliance Infrastructure are down around 3.5% each at Rs 216 and Rs 584, respectively.
Tata Power has advanced over 1% to Rs 740.
The market breadth is marginally positive - out of 2,033 stocks traded so far, 1,099 have advanced, 961 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
