Weakness persists; HDFC slumps 8%

The NSE Nifty is down 176 points at 4,140.

HDFC has plunged over 8% to Rs 2,045. Wipro has crashed 7.6% to Rs 440.

Tata Motors has tumbled 7% to Rs 454, and Reliance Infrastructure has slumped 6.5% to Rs 881.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Ambuja Cements and Jaiprakash Associates have dropped 6% each to Rs 505, Rs 80 and Rs 142, respectively.
