The BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 228bhp and it also comes with an electric motor that will churn out 129bhp of power. The BMW i8 will in total produce a power of 357bhp from the engine and electric motor. This hybrid sports car does a 0-100km/hr sprint in under 5 seconds and because of the small engine size will have a high fuel efficiency also. The BMW i8 is the first BMW production model to be powered by a three-cylinder gasoline engine and the resulting specific output of 154bhp per litre of displacement is on a par with high-performance sports car engines and is the highest of any engine produced by the BMW Group. The BMW i8's second power source is a hybrid synchronous electric motor specially developed and produced by the BMW Group for BMW i. The electric motor develops maximum power of 131bhp and produces its maximum torque of around 320 Nm from standstill.
The BMW i8 will cost about Rs 2 crore on-road and its design is very futuristic. driver can also select several driving modes: SPORT, COMFORT and ECO PRO. Using the gear selector, the driver can either select position D for automated gear selection or can switch to SPORT mode. This is the first sports car in India that isn't just quick but also highly efficient too.
