The new-Beetle had been spotted on the streets earlier this year, as Volkswagen had brought it down for homologation purposes. Known for its signature retro styling and timeless appeal, the new-Beetle appears to have grown a size larger. Not only is the new-Beetle longer, but it is also wider, thereby improving upon the passenger space inside the cabin.

The new-beetle is based on Volkswagen's Modular Transverse Matrix or the MQB platform. Characterized by a certain degree of standardization across group brands, it helps rationalize production costs even as vehicle designers get to push their envelope. From unlocking maximum space for the passenger cabin to offering reduced emissions and incorporating a host of active as well as passive safety systems, the MQB platform is among VW's most significant developments ever.

With the festive season already underway, Volkswagen appears to be lining up this halo car for launch. Having begun importing adequate units in keeping with the low target sales, the new-Beetle should be in showrooms by November-end. Expected to be priced at INR 30 Lakhs (on-road), the new-Beetle will be powered by Volkswagen's potent 1.4 Litre TSI motor. With about 150 ponies lurking under the hood and making about 180 Nm torque, low-down in the rev range, the new-Beetle should have enough poke going for it to keep Beetle owners happy.
