Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that the government has set aside a fund of Rs.50,000 crores to develop 100 smart cities in the country.
Addressing a seminar here, Naidu said that each selected smart city would get central assistance of 100 crore rupees per year for five years.
He further stated that emphasis would be given to citizen participation while developing these smart cities.
Recasting the urban landscape of India and making the lives of urban people comfortable was the need of the hour.
The government's focus was on sustainable and inclusive urban development.
NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya said a good urban life requires, adequate space, housing, office space and good transportation.
