A cable car facility will be introduced to the 16th century Makdhoom Sahib Shrine, for the convenience of visitors, and to promote tourism.
The cable car ropeway project is nearing completion, and will be the second such facility in the valley after the 'Gondola' connectivity in Gulmarg District.
"The project was conceived keeping mainly old people in mind. Other than that, there was no such facility in our city, which would give a boost to religious tourism," said Managing Director of Cable Car Corporation, Tufail Ahmad Matto.
The project has taken almost three years to finish and at a cost over six crore rupees till now.
Besides facilitating the elderly to reach the shrine, the cable car will also give tourists a complete view of Srinagar.
