The 2015 Formula One calendar has been arranged to witness a record 21 races by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), while dropping the controversial double points rule simultaneously.

The move to organize 21 races by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) would see the return of Korean Grand Prix provisionally, with Mexico set to organize the event after a 23-year absence. It would also surpass the 20-race campaign held in 2012, the BBC reported.

The decision to remove the controversial double points rule was also sanctioned by the council, in view of attracting widespread criticism. A new rule has further been introduced in an attempt to prevent drivers under the age of 18 from racing in F1, which would be adopted in 2016.

Double points were awarded in the just concluded season, which saw Lewis Hamilton becoming the World Champion with 381 points in the standing table, while receiving 50 points for the Abu Dhabi title decider race rather than usual 25 points.
