The Medical Council of India has slashed 250 MBBS seats in several medical colleges in Odisha and has permitted two other colleges to have 150 more seats.
The decision leaves the state with 1,000 seats for the current academic session instead of 1,100 last year.
The council has not renewed permission to Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital at Rourkela and the Sardar Rajas Medical College Hospital and Research Centre at Jaring in Kalahandi district that had 100 seats each previously.
Similarly, the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, has been restrained from increasing the seat intake from 100 to 150 for 2016-17 and 2017-18.
However, the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, has got permission to increase seats from 100 to 150.
Similarly, the number of seats at MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, goes up from 150 to 250.
Both the seats of SCB Medical College of Cuttack and the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Burla, will continue as it is.
Of the 1,000 seats medical seats across the state, 650 are in government colleges.
