Common people and kin of the victims who were killed in the gas leak tragedy on Thursday observed the 31st anniversary of one of the worst industrial disasters of the world that claimed several hundred of lives and left scores of people maimed for life.
An all-religion prayer meeting was held on Thursday at Barkatullah Bhawan here to pay their homage to the victims.
In the intervening night of December 2 and 3 in 1984, Methyl Isocyanate gas leaked from a pesticide plant of Union Carbide that wreaked havoc.
Even after the thirty years of the tragedy, its victims continue to be plagued with a number of problems.
Social activists alleged that despite tall claims of the authorities not much has been done for the victims.
Many non-governmental organisations also organised torch rallies and protested on the eve of gas tragedy, demanding proper justice and additional compensation for the survivors.
