A Toronto-bound Fly Jamaica aircraft carrying 118 passengers and eight crew members crash landed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Friday, leaving six people injured.
The incident took place just a few moments after the flight OJ256 took off from the very same airport in Guyana after a 45-minute delay, according to CBC.
Guyana officials held a news conference on Friday, during which they stated that the pilot had indicated trouble with the Boeing 757's hydraulic system merely 11 minutes into the flight, forcing the aircraft to return to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport where the crash landing occurred.
The plane went through a fence at the airport with the emergency inflatable slide being deployed from one side, according to pictures posted by the airport on their social media accounts. One of the engines seems to have been damaged due to the crash landing.
Fly Jamaica later issued a media release in which they confirmed the incident while outlining that all on board are safe. The airline assured that assistance is being provided.
The six injured are being treated at Diamond Hospital, according to the airport's Facebook page.
