64 Afghan Taliban fighters killed in 24 hours: Interior Ministry

Afghan police backed by the national army and the NATO-led forces have killed 64 Taliban fighters during a series of operations over the past 24 hours, Interior Ministry has said.

The Interior Ministry statement said Afghan National Police conducted several cleanup operations with the support of the national Army, intelligence agency and the NATO-led Coalition forces in Zabul, Uruzgan, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Paktiya, Helmand and Kunar provinces.

In addition, 12 militants have been wounded and several others made captive, the statement said.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
