Seven Mexican police officers have been killed in a prison riot in Mexico on Sunday.
According to media reports, The deceased officers had gone to La Toma prison situated in the mountain town of Amatlan de Los Reyes in Southern Mexico to restore the law and order in the prison and shift some of the dangerous inmates to separate cells.
As per the Veracruz state government in Mexico, the inmates tried to set fire to some mattresses and the smoke would have filled the room thus suffocating the officers to death.
The authorities have not yet released any details about any injured prisoners.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death.
