Majority of the Football League clubs have reportedly voted in favour of 'safe standing' areas in place in football grounds.

Among the 70 percent votes include Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace, Swansea, Sunderland and Manchester United although Liverpool remain opposed to the return of standing fans.

The report mentioned that Manchester City is currently the only club in Britain to have safe standing terraces after recently installing German-style rail seats for a trial.

According to the Daily Star, majority of the 72 Football League clubs voted 'yes', including almost every club playing in the Championship, including AFC Bournemouth , Blackburn Rovers, Watford and Leeds, to make safe standing a reality.

The report mentioned that League One clubs Carlisle and Bristol City also voted in favour, adding that due to the Football League rules, the terraces can only be used for Bristol rugby matches which are also played at the club's Ashton Gate ground.

Standing terraces were eliminated at football stadiums in England, Wales and Scotland following the findings of the official inquiry into the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy, in which Liverpool lost 96 fans, the report further said.
