Great news for theatre lovers. The Aditya Birla Group and Times of India have joined hands to give a new lease of life to the theatre scene in India.
Titled Aadyam, the joint initiative aims to revamp theatre watching in the country by taking it beyond the stage and to newer audiences.
The initiative brings together groups like Rage Theatre, Q Theatre Productions, Masque Theatre, AKVarious and Arpana Theatre to create plays that can be enjoyed by both connoisseurs and novices alike.
To cultivate a truly enriching experience, a total of 45 shows have been planned at various venues in Delhi and Mumbai over a period of eight-months.
Theatre plays like The Sidhus of Upper Juhu, God of Carnage, The Merchant of Venice, The Hound of the Baskervilles and Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon will be staged. Making its humble beginnings with theatre, Aadyam intends to foray into other forms of performing arts too.
Artistic Director Divya Bhatia is helping the initiative transform into reality.
He says, "These groups' work has been experimental, original and popular; development oriented and commercially savvy; small and intimate, as well as large scale; pioneering and celebratory; thought provoking and entertaining; covering production, direction and creation."
He adds that Aadyam will be an exciting experience for his team as well as the audience.
Needless to say, the initiative can transform the fate of theatre and theatre makers in the country.
Brian Tellis, the man behind the project, adds, "Aadyam is a belief, a promise and a commitment to the institution of creative expression. The initiative will serve as a catalyst to streamline stage management, encourage marketing ideas as well as groom administrative structure in the world of the arts."
