Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday alleged that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's remark on intolerance was politically motivated while asserting that tolerance is in India's DNA.
"The country has given him (Aamir Khan) so much love and respect. I am sure he said it in a hurry or maybe under the influence of some politically motivated campaign," Naqvi told ANI.
"He should go to places where innocents are killed, to see what intolerance is. Tolerance is in the DNA of this country. Neither is he going anywhere nor will we let him go," he added.
Naqvi's comment comes a day after Aamir expressed "alarm" and despondency over the rise in such cases "in the last six to eight months".
Aamir, who was speaking at the eighth edition of the Ramnath Goenka excellence in journalism awards yesterday, said that a sense a sense of "insecurity" and "fear" had seeped deep within society.
