The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly targeting its chief Arvind Kejriwal and describing him as a person of anarchist 'gotra' (sub-caste) in the latest campaign advertisement.
"The Election Commission has said that they will take appropriate action against it," AAP leader Pankaj Gupta told ANI.
Earlier in the day, the BJP clarified that their party's controversial campaign advertisement portraying Kejriwal was in context of the AAP's anarchist behaviour and added that the latter had twisted it into a religious and casteist overtone.
"An advertisement by the Bharatiya Janata Party which alluded to the Aam Aadmi Party's anarchist and obstructionist behaviour which alluded to their threats to disrupt Republic Day last year and in that context spoke about the anarchist attitude mindset and behaviour of the AAP has sought to be twisted by the AAP into religious and casteist overtone which is deplorable," BJP leader Piyush Goyal told the media here.
He also said that a complaint has been sent to the Election Commission and that the party has appealed for immediate action.
The BJP also accused the AAP of taking offence to 'everything but their own acts', after the latter demanded a public apology for an advertisement published by the former.
"The AAP takes offence to everything except their own acts. If they introspect, perhaps they will become a more responsible party," said BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli.
