Yogendra Yadav joins UPSC aspirants' protest at Jantar Mantar

Aspiring civil services candidates today staged a protest at Jantar Mantar over the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) row, where they were joined by Aam Aadmi leader (AAP) Yogendra Yadav.

The AAP leader said his party was in total support of the students who were protesting against discrimination.

"I have been a Hindi medium student myself, and I know how it's like to crossover from Hindi to English. Yesterday, when the government made the announcement, the students sought our support, and now, I'm sitting here with them since last evening," Yadav told ANI.

"I feel that in our country there is an informal system of linguistic apartheid, there is no other name to it. And this apartheid has to be dismantled. I feel that this agitation is a crucial step in that direction. So, I had extended support," he added.

In a bid to resolve the CSAT row, the government took a decision that the marks of English section will not be included for merit. This decision did not appease the protesting students completely as they want the CSAT to be scrapped entirely.

When asked for further comments on this row, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said that there was no need to say anything more on this issue.

Meanwhile, D Raja of the Communist Party of India (CPI) said that there should be a level playing field for everyone who speaks different languages in India.

Congress leader Manish Tewari also said that the government has not given a solution that will satisfy the UPSC aspirants.
