Australia's top-order batsman Aaron Finch has been ruled out of the Twenty20 tri-series opener against New Zealand after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.
Uncapped opener D'Arcy Short might fill the void for him, reports Cricket.com.au.
Finch, who is the second best batsman in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 rankings, also sat out in the last two one-day international (ODI) matches against England due to the injury.
"He went through some run-throughs yesterday with the medical staff, he said he sort of felt it a little bit," skipper David Warner said of Finch.
He added, "We didn't want to risk him going into this tri-series with this first game. He's going to be on ice definitely."
The tri-series involving Australia, New Zealand and England will begin from Saturday.
