Reacting to the horrific incident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh where two missing girls were found dead with their bodies mutilated, Former National Commission for women (NCW) member Shamina Shafiq on Sunday said that it is really terrifying and that the concept of 'people friendly police' needs to be adopted soon.
"This is scary because time and again repeatedly we see such incidents that keep happening to girls. It is important to work on the 'people friendly police' concept because right now the police are seen as a 'crime friendly police' whereas it should be vice-versa. Like gaining access to bus station or the railway station we should have access to police station." Shafiq told ANI.
Shafiq also added that "as far as crime against nation is concern, the entire nation is going through the same thing. The police have to now pull up their strings and work on ensuring that crimes do not happen."
Dead bodies of two girls who went missing in Gangaghat area of Unnao on August 31 were found by the police. One of the girls was found hanging from a tree whose body was burnt using acid in an apparent attempt to hide her identification. The victims' family alleged that the girls were raped. The police are investigating the matter and a search operation is being conducted to nab the culprits.
