Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on Thursday condoled the passing away of former Supreme Court judge VR Krishna Iyer, terming the passing away of the legal luminary as a 'national loss'.
"A legend of the judicial world has passed away. His performance throughout his life as a judge has been remarkable. It is a great loss for the country, it is a national loss," Advani told the media here.
"His life will serve as an inspiration to all those who have served the country by their judicial acumen," he added.
Earlier in the day, the eminent jurist and former judge passed away at a private hospital in Kochi after reportedly succumbing to renal and cardiac failure.
Justice Iyer, known for his forthright views, had turned 100 recently. He was sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court on July 17, 1973 and retired at the age of 65 on November 14, 1980.
