AGPC to organize world Sikh conclave to re-emphasize Akal Takht's supremacy

Peeved over moves to undermine the Akal Takht's supremacy, American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) today said they would organize World Sikh Conclave in the United States and India to discuss the matter.

They said it was a matter of serious concern that the Sikh's main temporal institution was losing credibility.

AGPC President J S Hothi and Coordinator Dr.Pritpal Singh said in a joint statement that they would invite the Sikh intellectuals from all over the world to take part in the conclave to discuss the matter.

"One such conclave will be organized in USA and another in India to deliberate the issue of independence and autonomy of the institution of Akal Takht'', they said.

They added that the Takht's role is pivotal in running of the Sikh affairs but off late it had been marred by the controversies.

Dr.Pritpal Singh who also reacted strongly to the role of Akal Takht in the matter relating constitution of the new Haryana Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee said that Takht should not have played to the tune of certain political lines. He said Akal Takht belongs to the whole Sikh Panth and it should be above political affiliations.

"All the issues relating how institution of the Akal Takht can be strengthened and its independent role ensured in Sikh affairs would be discussed in details in the Conclave,'' said Dr.Pritpal Singh.
