Air India Express' recent announcement that the free baggage allowance for Gulf bound flights will be brought down from 30kg to 20kg is reportedly going to be revoked.
The rule was challenged by a delegation of various registered organizations in Abu Dhabi who visited New Delhi and lobbied against Air India Express's rule and they were confident that the rule will be reversed within a month.
Air India Express had also announced that for every extra 10kg a cost of 30 Dirhams would be charged, which the delegation argued, affected low and middle income Indian expatriates who depend on the budget airline, Gulf News reports.
President of the Indian Social and Cultural Centre (ISC), Joy Thomas John who was part of the delegation said that the senior Indian government officials, including Cabinet ministers and senior executives of Air India, have promised them that the new baggage rule will be reconsidered.
The airline had said that due to the higher free baggage allowance on flights operating into India, the saleable seat capacity is reduced in line with payload constraints and the reduction to 20kg is in tune with the present free baggage allowance on flights operating out of India.
