Akashvani celebrated Public Service Broadcasting Day and added two more All India Radio channels to the list of live streaming on Thursday.

The day is considered important in the Indian calendar, as it was on this day in 1947 that Mahatma Gandhi visited studios of Akashvani located in New Delhi, to address people who were settled in a camp in Kurukshetra for a brief period of time.

This was Gandhi's first and only visit to All India Radio since its inception. He had then applauded the work of Akashvani and acknowledged its reach and impact to far and wide areas of India.

To commemorate his visit, the day is observed as Public Service Broadcasting Day.

Today as part of the celebration, Gandhi's favourite bhajans were recited by the Vadya Vrinda artists of AIR, Delhi Station and the students of Air Force Bal Bharati School sung couple of songs on National Unity.

On this occasion, All India Radio also added two more channels AIR Telugu and AIR Kannada to its list of channels being live streamed through its website allindiaradio.gov.in

Now, in total one can enjoy 12 channels through live streaming and can stay connected with the oldest broadcaster of the country from anywhere and at any time of the day across the globe in real time.

A few channels are also available through AIR Live Mobile App that is available for Windows, Android and iOS platforms. The live streaming and the mobile app will cater to Indians speaking regional Indian language but are settled in different parts of the world.

On this occasion, F.Sheheryar, Director General of AIR, emphasised on the pristineness of public service broadcasting which does not necessarily has a relation with revenue generation, and said, "The very idea of Public Service Broadcasting emanates from serving the forlorn segments of society who have least access to print and visual media and are dependent on radio receivers on their pillows."

As part of their digital India initiative, the broadcaster has made it possible for the advertisers to buy a space by contacting on Toll Free No. 15102 or by logging to their website allindiaradio.gov.in and also through csuair.org.in.
