Akhilesh Yadav announces new facilities for Vrindavan widows

On the occasion on Holi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a number of facilities for the widows of Vrindavan like RO water system, solar power plant among other services.

The ashrams in which the widows live will also be provided with centralised solar water heaters and water coolers.

Earlier, breaking from tradition, over a thousand Vrindavan widows played at the played Holi at the ancient Vrindavan temple and were joined by widows from Varanasi.

In many parts of India, widows are traditionally barred from playing Holi or participating in any other festival or auspicious functions.
