Akshay Kumar's 'Toilet
According to Box office India, the first day collection of Akshay Kumar starrer opened at Rs. 12 crore net, while the Shah Rukh Khan starrer raked in Rs. 15.50 crores.
While producer figures read, 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' having garnered Rs. 13.10 crore and 'Jab Harry met Sejal' minting Rs. 15.25 crores on respective opening days.
Earlier this year, 'Raees' had opened at nearly Rs. 21 crores despite clashing with a major film like 'Kaabil'. 'Tubelight' too opened at Rs. 21 crores as pwr Box office India reports. The figures clearly showcase the box office clout that Khans manage.
What's extremely noteworthy is that 'Jab Harry met Sejal' is SRK's second release this year after 'Raees,' while 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' also marks to be Akshay Kumar's second outing of this year after 'Jolly LLB 2.'
Apart from 'Baahubali' that was dubbed in Hindi, 'Raees' remains the highest grossing Hindi Film of 2017 with lifetime collections of 128.77 crore. Trade pundits are uncertain that 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' would surpass this trend given its below par opening.
Many were hopeful that 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' would finally be the first Akshay Kumar film that will take him across the Rs. 20 crore first-day barrier.
However, the film fell short by a long distance.
This keeps Akshay's Friday range bound as he hasn't been able to break this shackle of Rs. 10-14 crores in a long while despite the content of the films supporting him.
