'Alone Yet Not Alone' is out of the Oscar race for the best original score as it has been rescinded by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors.
The AMPAS said in a press release that the Board decided to remove the song when they found out that composer Bruce Broughton, a former Governor and current Music Branch executive committee member, had emailed members of the branch to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period, the Huffington Post reported.
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Academy President, asserted that no matter how well-intentioned the communication, using one's position to personally promote one's own Oscar submission creates the appearance of an unfair advantage.
The Board of Governors said that Broughton's move goes against the Academy's goal to ensure that the Awards competition is conducted in a fair and ethical manner, so they removed it to "protect the reputation and integrity of the awards process".
Also, no new song will be named as a replacement for 'Alone Yet Not Alone'.
The remaining songs in Best Original Song category are:
'Happy' from 'Despicable Me 2'
'Let It Go' from 'Frozen'
'The Moon Song' from 'Her'
