Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain can appeal to India for legal assistance for minorities in Pakistan under the Liaquat-Nehru Pact, said the president of Pakistan Christian congress (PCC), Dr. Nazir S Bhatti recently.

"If any one wishes to declare Altaf Hussain a traitor on calling for Indian support for Urdu speaking community in Pakistan, then they must step forward and press upon the Pakistan establishment to deny international treaty of "Liaquat-Nehru Pact" with India," Pakistan Christian Post quoted Bhatti as saying.

In 1950, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan and then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru signed a treaty for protection of ethnic and religious minorities in India and Pakistan, which is famously referred to the "Liaquat-Nehu Pact".

Bhatti further objected to the name of Altaf Hussain being scratched from the Universities of Karachi and Hyderabad by the Sindh government.

He warned those planning fate of Urdu speaking community and stifling the voice of Altaf Hussainwould be guilty of playing with integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.
