Former Punjab chief minister and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh has asked Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley to clarify his stand on fake cases registered against Congress workers in the Amritsar parliamentary constituency.

In a statement issued here, Singh said that as far as he knew Jaitley, he was sure that he will not stoop so low as to resort to vindictiveness and vendetta against those who did not vote for him.

"But unfortunately, this is being done in Amritsar, as tens of Congress workers have been implicated in false cases after the election results," he said, while adding that he expected Jaitley to clarify his stand on the issue.

The CWC member added that it was obvious that the Akalis were feeling not only embarrassed, but also frustrated, as they had lost face before the BJP and Jaitley after the latter's poll defeat in Amritsar.

"And now they have started venting their anger and frustration over the Congress workers realising little that this will further alienate and antagonize them", he pointed out.

The former chief minister added that he expected a better political approach and attitude from the new FM towards his political opponents. "Your silence will only amount to your approval to all that is being done by the alliance government across Amritsar," he told Jaitley while warning that this will only create bad blood.

"Elections are obviously won or lost but the adverse results should not mean that those you consider to have not supported you should be taught a lesson as is currently being done in Amritsar," he said.

He also pointed out that earlier two lawyers were assaulted who are still undergoing treatment while another lawyer was being implicated in a false case.
