Angelina Jolie has had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventative measure against cancer, it has been revealed.
The 'Maleficent' star, who is married to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, said in her New York Times article that she had the surgery recently as she carried a gene that gave her a 50 percent risk of developing ovarian cancer.
The 37-year-old actress asserted that it was not easy to make these decisions but it was possible to take control and tackle head-on any health issue.
In the article, titled 'Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery', the actress continued that her doctors indicated that she should have preventive surgery about a decade before the earliest onset of cancer in her female relatives.
The Oscar-winning Hollywood star added that it was not possible to remove all risk, and the fact is she remained prone to cancer, she will look for natural ways to strengthen her immune system.
In 2013, the award-winning actress had both breasts removed to cut her risk of breast cancer.
