Apple business booms after floods in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a record sale of apples this season with the recent floods acting as a boon for the business in the state.

Mohammad Amin, an apple trader, said that the sale of apples this year has increased in comparison to the previous years.

"This year, the apple production has been good and the quality of apples is also good. Around 100 -150 vehicles of apple come during day. This year the sale of apples in comparison to previous years has increased. This time due to floods as the areas were blocked, the quality of apples has been good," he said.

The price of Kashmiri apples, which is generally Rs. 100 per kilogram, has now slid down due to the abundant crop.

Meanwhile, Zeyad Junaid, a buyer, said the production of apples has been abundant.

"There are trucks loaded with apples stationed behind us. People have made selling points here. In Poonch district, I think around 100-150 vehicles come to sell apples. There is no shortage of apples and is available everywhere. In Poonch district, the business of apples is doing well," he said.
