The Indian Army on Saturday averted a major mishap at Chak Malal Government Middle School here, after they prevented a fire that had broken in the nearby fields from engulfing the school.
The leftover hay of the harvested wheat and the vegetation in the nearby fields had caught fire around 1:45 p.m. yesterday and the flames of the same had reached the school.
The units of the Crossed Swords Division at Hamirpur and Rakhmuthi Garrison swiftly responded to the emergency call made by the locals and took control of the situation.
The Army fire tender and local fire brigade personnel extinguished the fire and saved the school property which is estimated to be worth around rupees 8 lakhs.
It took over two hours to douse the fire.
