Ashok Gehlot's remarks demeaning to women: Vasundhara Raje

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Tuesday took objection of remarks made by Congress leader Ashok Gehlot and said the comments made by the Congress leader were "mortifying for all the women residing in the country".

Raje was referring to Gehlot's comments on the courtesy Raje showed to her party president Amit Shah.

Gehlot, the former chief minister of Rajasthan, while addressing a public meeting at Makrana on November 25, had said, "Raje is doing a half bow in front of the president of his party (Amit Shah) but she has never met the public in five years. It would be better to bow down in front of the people of Rajasthan rather than Shah. Everyone knows that Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and Raje were at loggerheads. But now that the elections are approaching, she is bowing down to Shah just to please him."

Strongly objecting to the remarks, Raje said, "The demeaning comments made by Gehlot reflects upon his perception about women. Being a woman, I cannot even repeat his comments. I never imagined that the Congress leaders can have undignified thinking for the females."

Further training guns at Gehlot, the Rajasthan Chief Minister said that bowing down in front of the elders is a tradition of Hindus. "The level of discourse has come down because Congress does not have any substantial argument to criticise the ruling BJP," Raje retorted.

The Chief Minister also claimed that after coming to power in the state, the BJP-led government has introduced several revolutionaries schemes for the upliftment of the girls in the society.

"Congress ministers call me 'Maharani' (queen) for getting electoral benefits but in reality, I am Sevarani (a person who serves the needy in society)," she said.

The state assembly elections are scheduled to be held on December 7 and counting of votes will take place on December 11.
