The Assam government has asked the Centre for 600 companies from the Armed Forces to be deployed during the upcoming assembly polls in the state.

Assam Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) SN Singh said that the Election Commission will take a final call on whether to deploy central forces or state police or both during the polls.

He added that about 24 thousand 800 polling booths will be set up across the state to conduct polls.

Operations to seize illegal arms have been intensified by security forces ahead of the elections.
