The human rights ministry has said that at least 2,700 people, mostly soldiers are missing in Iraq as a result of attacks by the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
According to News24, most of the missing people include soldiers who were at the Speicher base which the IS extremists had captured six months back near Tikrit.
Almost 487 are missing from Badush prison outside the city of Mosul including 38 women. The number of missing has reached 1,660 from Speicher.
A ministry spokesperson Kamel al-Amin said that the number of people gone missing is probably more than reported.
The families of the missing ones have been asked to provide DNA samples to identify them who might be found in mass graves later.
The ministry also said that the fate of hundreds of women and girls from the Yazidi minority who were abducted by ISIS during an attack in August is still unknown.
